<span style="text-align: left;">Finally, the feather cane. It is a beautiful cane that is surprisingly simple to make...lots of steps, but not really all that difficult. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20112_zpszrad1poc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20112_zpszrad1poc.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I'm just using three colors for this one (I've used five or six brighter colors for more contrast and a livelier look)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20089_zpsomyl9cl3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20089_zpsomyl9cl3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
As usual, wrap a couple of logs with a sheet of clay (I'm using a thinner setting for this cane)</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20090_zpsu9yxb1kw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20090_zpsu9yxb1kw.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Reduce the cane until it's several times it's original length (I'm reducing to about a quarter inch in diameter)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20091_zpsmsqp968f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20091_zpsmsqp968f.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Flatten each cane so that it will fit through the pasta machine</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20092_zps7mvdap1r.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20092_zps7mvdap1r.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Roll through on the thickest setting...you'll get a long, flat noodle-looking thing</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20107_zpsrzorkuxu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20107_zpsrzorkuxu.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Cut in about one inch lengths</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20108_zpssknmfpsf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20108_zpssknmfpsf.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Offset and layer each piece in the color pattern you like...do one side and then reverse for the other side; save one piece for the top part of the feather; when I demoed this at a clay meeting, Kim said she makes the pieces longer and makes one side and then cuts it in half. Less work and better matching. Oh, she's right (as usual!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20110_zpsaz7rozl8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20110_zpsaz7rozl8.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Roll a medium thick sheet of clay for the middle vein of the feather; place the two layered pieces on either side of the vein and insert the top piece (it might need to be trimmed or reduced a bit to fit)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20111_zpsfpyug4ej.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20111_zpsfpyug4ej.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Compress and reduce as desired. Ta-da! A feather cane!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here's a group picture of the canes in this series....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20113_zpslmbzgker.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20113_zpslmbzgker.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Hope this helps and thanks for stopping by!</div>

<div>
If you're going to make flowers, well you're going to want to make leaves. They're pretty easy to make, although there are a couple of tricky parts that are hard to explain. Good thing I took pictures!</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20088_zpsdv1kkoxe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20088_zpsdv1kkoxe.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
Roll a shortish, fatish log of green (or whatever color you want your leaves to be). Wrap with a darker color green (or whatever color, etc. etc.)<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20080_zpsq35r4blx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20080_zpsq35r4blx.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br />
Stand the cane on its end and slice into four pieces as shown (a shorter, fatter cane makes this step easier)<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/01332345-014b-41b8-aff0-a68c7c79e2d2_zps77a80ye3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/01332345-014b-41b8-aff0-a68c7c79e2d2_zps77a80ye3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
The goal of the next step is to put the veining in the leaf...you want a contrasting color between each of the pieces you cut. The way I do it is to put three slices on the vein color and trim even with the cane pieces<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20083_zpsojp9xiec.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20083_zpsojp9xiec.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
Then reassemble the pieces<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20084_zpsfyq1qpz6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20084_zpsfyq1qpz6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
Here's the hard part to explain. You want to cut the cane on the diagonal...hopefully this picture shows what I mean<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20085_zpstoztkf40.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20085_zpstoztkf40.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
Put the vein color on one of the cut sides and trim to fit<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20086_zpsq2lxxcub.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20086_zpsq2lxxcub.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
Flip one of the pieces so the veins on one piece go a different direction than the other. Again, hopefully the pic shows what I mean.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20087_zps2yeul7t0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20087_zps2yeul7t0.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
<br />
Smooth the cane and reduce as desired. Ta da! A leaf cane!</div>
Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-47588246799141016932017-03-21T22:26:00.001-07:002017-03-21T22:26:49.656-07:00Bullseye Cane Bonanza, Part Three: Complex Cane<div>
By adding layers (and complicated layers), you can make a bullseye cane look fairly complex. It's not really hard, but can take a bit of time and planning (especially with all the clay conditioning...wish I could farm that out to someone!).</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20078_zpskrzrlkjq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20078_zpskrzrlkjq.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
I decided to go with a yellow, orange, red theme this time around. Here's the conditioned and rolled out sheets...they vary in thickness, which you can see in the finished cane. </div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20060_zpsshyqhfv6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20060_zpsshyqhfv6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Roll your center with a sheet of clay</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20062_zpshosg8y1r.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20062_zpshosg8y1r.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
Then roll that in a thinner sheet of clay, followed by a thicker sheet of clay</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20064_zps2fytfw90.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20064_zps2fytfw90.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This next couple of steps can be a little tricky...hopefully, I can explain it clearly. Roll two different colors on the thickest setting. Stack on top of each other</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20066_zpsfipk7ivu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20066_zpsfipk7ivu.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cut into several stacks (I used four here)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20068_zpsjuxvn8uz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20068_zpsjuxvn8uz.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Stack on top of each other</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20069_zpsewierusx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20069_zpsewierusx.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then slice the stack in half and stack the two halves on top of each other; do it again one or two times (depending on how thick your stack is). Roll the stack through the pasta machine with the stripes going vertical (you want the clay stack layer to be even thickness without distorting the lines)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20070_zpsytryqd9h.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20070_zpsytryqd9h.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Trim the edges if it's too long for the roll (or roll out the cane to make it fit the sheet...either way works). Roll the cane in the striped sheet, trimming off excess (if it's too short, reduce the cane before wrapping)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20071_zps5cwivy25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20071_zps5cwivy25.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Smooth the layer onto the cane (usually it will gap apart in a couple of places...just mush it back onto the cane and smooth)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20072_zpsfnnrbe0i.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20072_zpsfnnrbe0i.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wrap the cane in a sheet of medium thickness. Roll two or three colors on a very thin setting, then stack the sheets and roll on a setting that is one or two steps thicker. When you're dealing with very thin sheets, it's often easier to stack them and roll the cane with the stack, then rolling each sheet individually. Of course, I may just find it easier because I'm a klutz (Lol!)</div>

As with any bullseye cane, it can be as simple or as complicated as you want. Let's go for simple this time, okay?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20059_zpstarsmszx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20059_zpstarsmszx.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Start with the flower center. I'm using yellow wrapped with orange:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20044_zpsaexdtkgv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20044_zpsaexdtkgv.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the petals--a little more fancy...two (count 'em, TWO) colors of purple:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20046_zps93ary9cb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20046_zps93ary9cb.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20047_zpstfzlljl9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20047_zpstfzlljl9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reduce to a little bit smaller than the center cane (this can vary, depending on how many petals you want...smaller for more, larger for less); cut the number of petals you want, the same length as the flower center:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20050_zpss2zh29r4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20050_zpss2zh29r4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Place the five (more? less?) petal pieces around the center cane and lightly compress. There are two options at this point. You can have a flower without packing. It's a little tricky to reduce...a matter of pulling the cane rather than compressing and rolling. Or you can pack the cane with a background color and roll it to reduce.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20053_zpsy9u921pr.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20053_zpsy9u921pr.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To pack the cane, form small background triangles to put between each petal:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20056_zpshjyovhoa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20056_zpshjyovhoa.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then wrap a sheet of background color around the result:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20058_zpsoe5zldfp.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20058_zpsoe5zldfp.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reduce as desired (and wrap with another color if you like). Ta-da! A flower cane!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/007_zpsawb3dgj8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/007_zpsawb3dgj8.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Behold the bullseye cane. A simple cane, really. Roll a log of clay; roll out a sheet of clay; wrap the log with the sheet and...ta-da! A bullseye cane. But it's also a versatile cane. Pull up a chair and I'll show you.<br />
<br />
First up...the Lace Cane.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/6fcb747e-c65d-4f02-b848-8e4984be5613_zpspgk0emps.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/6fcb747e-c65d-4f02-b848-8e4984be5613_zpspgk0emps.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
You can use any color(s) you like for this cane, but I like the white/translucent combo. After it's baked, sanded and polished, there is a lot of nice depth to the finished object. So. Roll a log of translucent clay and roll out a sheet of white clay (I used a log of translucent about 1/2 inch in diameter and a sheet of white on a medium thick setting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20025_zps1qbxu2in.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20025_zps1qbxu2in.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a><a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20025_zps1qbxu2in.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">Wrap the log with the sheet of clay to make a bullseye cane. A tip...lay the log on the end of the sheet and roll until the end of the sheet covers the log and just touches the top of the sheet. Roll back...see the very slight indentation on the sheet? That's where you want to make the cut.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20027_zpsxjz0h73z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20027_zpsxjz0h73z.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"></span><span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"></span><span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><br /></span><span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></span><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make the cut, then finish rolling the log in the sheet. The edges should just meet. If it needs trimming, do it now.</div>
<div>
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20029_zpsa8rq1qu9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20029_zpsa8rq1qu9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reduce the cane until it's about five or six times the original length; cut the cane into five or six equal lengths. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20032_zpsu5xgbblx.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20032_zpsu5xgbblx.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Put the pieces together rather haphazardly...nice and neat is NOT the goal. We're looking for something a little more organic and irregular:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20033_zpsx0hy9aaw.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20033_zpsx0hy9aaw.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20034_zpsohvkdq5u.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20034_zpsohvkdq5u.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Reduce to two or three times it's length and cut into a couple (or three...or more!) pieces. Again, we're going for a rather irregular look. Put the pieces together and reduce once again (I don't usually trim the ends until the final assembly of the cane):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20037_zpsapogenwf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bullseye%20cane%20bonanza%20037_zpsapogenwf.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Aaaannd, one more time!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

You can reduce another time or two, or reduce a time or two less. It depends on how fine or coarse you want your lacy cane to be.</span><span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><br /></span><span style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;">Lace Cane...ta-da!</span></div>

Here's the first batch:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG1615%202_zpsy6xzsnwy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG1615%202_zpsy6xzsnwy.jpg" height="304" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-58482608463858048452015-04-19T22:31:00.001-07:002015-04-19T22:31:57.026-07:00some new ornaments...I'm working up a couple of variations on my flat snowflakes. Here's the original style:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/e4fe5407-bf4c-416e-99e7-9ce4c6a54747_zpshppi7cvq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/e4fe5407-bf4c-416e-99e7-9ce4c6a54747_zpshppi7cvq.jpg" height="319" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And a style using one less slice. I think this might be my favorite:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/efa38863-1cd6-4b41-823c-7d6c6d714193_zpssvx0nknv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/efa38863-1cd6-4b41-823c-7d6c6d714193_zpssvx0nknv.jpg" height="298" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And this one is quite a bit smaller--only nine slices:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/d9fc87c9-5b4a-4407-a1c7-d6be8a672093_zpsuepjvqcq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/d9fc87c9-5b4a-4407-a1c7-d6be8a672093_zpsuepjvqcq.jpg" height="306" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Thoughts?Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-62150910473368014562015-04-19T00:50:00.001-07:002015-04-19T00:50:33.222-07:00Frank...So March was the Emerald City Comic Con. Last year I made <a href="http://catrinket.blogspot.com/2014/04/little-wolfie.html" target="_blank">Little Wolfie</a> and the year before I made <a href="http://catrinket.blogspot.com/2013/03/little-vampires.html" target="_blank">Little Vampire</a>. So this year:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/f1ddc271-f0fe-4cea-b831-19226ff239e8_zpsqnnhxsl5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/f1ddc271-f0fe-4cea-b831-19226ff239e8_zpsqnnhxsl5.jpg" height="320" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
Little Frankenstein!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/c6d04987-be79-4472-b050-bc3206c721a0_zpsbphp43db.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/c6d04987-be79-4472-b050-bc3206c721a0_zpsbphp43db.jpg" height="308" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
He's about an inch and a quarter high. We'll have to see <a href="http://little-vampires.com/" target="_blank">what's up</a> for next year....Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-38097376291316463952015-04-17T22:08:00.002-07:002015-04-17T22:08:38.642-07:00A couple more bracelets...I made a couple more bracelets that go along with the last one I made (pictured with the two new ones):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/df734556-9969-4229-b759-c98353b2234e_zpsswwhigil.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/df734556-9969-4229-b759-c98353b2234e_zpsswwhigil.jpg" height="264" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-499070295078880682015-04-16T22:30:00.000-07:002015-04-16T22:30:05.002-07:00Tulips for the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival...I made a few tulip pendants on satin cording for the quilt museum to sell during the tulip festival. I kind of like them on a small chain, but they liked the satin cording. They were fun to make:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/d0e5a663-c43f-4562-8500-ce4781bc62f6_zpszlgy9g70.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/d0e5a663-c43f-4562-8500-ce4781bc62f6_zpszlgy9g70.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a nice way to use up some canes....Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-5925436157476181412015-04-15T22:36:00.000-07:002015-04-15T22:36:18.916-07:00New ornament prototypes...I'm working on a new ornament for a client...eskimos! Here are my first two tries:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/4851ff91-3ee9-4f2f-8fd7-2278c1e6f6b9_zpshicdpkp4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/4851ff91-3ee9-4f2f-8fd7-2278c1e6f6b9_zpshicdpkp4.jpg" height="277" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Not quite what she was looking for. She sent me a sketch (I can't draw for beans, but she did quite well) and I came up with this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/74c43cb5-a23d-45b9-a64f-9581c8c898ae_zpsmjaoz8ai.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/74c43cb5-a23d-45b9-a64f-9581c8c898ae_zpsmjaoz8ai.jpg" height="320" width="203" /></a></div>
<br />
Better, but still not quite right. I totally love it, though!<br />
<br />
I'm building a bunch of quilt canes right now, so I'll get back to another try later this week.Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-34752405471551467922015-04-15T21:01:00.000-07:002015-04-15T21:01:08.719-07:00*sigh*A word of advice. If you're going to cure something while you're getting ready for work...be sure to turn the kitchen light on and put on your glasses. Otherwise, you could see that spot on the dial that looks like the temperature mark would be revealed as a spot of flour. So the temp is 400 instead of 275:<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/0ef363ee-e0dd-4448-8689-0b1c9e2faec2_zpsztszmotu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/0ef363ee-e0dd-4448-8689-0b1c9e2faec2_zpsztszmotu.jpg" height="320" width="317" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's SUCH a bummer. I was really happy with the way they turned out...the cane was beautiful and the ornaments were just like I'd envisioned them. If I hadn't been in the shower, I might have realized they were burning and rescued them.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Oh well....</div>

Here's my latest:<br />

They're not really Santa's or Saint Nicholas's, or woodland men...I'm not quite sure what to call them. But I think they're cute. Here's my latest one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/7e79a3b8-9b7a-441a-b63f-c92712a23f86_zpsjpx52dvu.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/7e79a3b8-9b7a-441a-b63f-c92712a23f86_zpsjpx52dvu.jpg" height="320" width="152" /></a></div>

<br />
He's not baked yet...I might want to tweak it just a wee bit more....Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-76829246465677952932015-02-11T21:56:00.000-08:002015-02-11T21:56:26.155-08:00Clay Day Creations...Sorry for being away so long...I have a health issue I've been dealing with over the past couple of weeks. Stupid high blood pressure! It was under control...and then it wasn't. So I've been trying to cut back on everything, overeating & junk/fast food, stress, jobs, etc. And I've been trying to exercise. It all cuts into my time.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I went to a clay day at the end of January. I made a couple of things. First up...another bracelet! Big surprise!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/17b54473-ce22-4842-a2e8-b318a136e939_zpsphqawgcm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/17b54473-ce22-4842-a2e8-b318a136e939_zpsphqawgcm.jpg" height="243" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/b201319f-abcb-4c68-b0a1-f9eee39e29b4_zpshxadgjum.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/b201319f-abcb-4c68-b0a1-f9eee39e29b4_zpshxadgjum.jpg" height="217" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/0fb7f3c4-022e-4216-8e26-7201aa879341_zps1upypw8h.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/0fb7f3c4-022e-4216-8e26-7201aa879341_zps1upypw8h.jpg" height="260" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up...a little house. I found this cute cookie cutter around Christmas time at Joanne's. I thought I'd try silk-screening on translucent clay and put a little luminary in it. I like how it turned out--I hope you can see how it glimmers....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Silkscreen, stamps with metallic paint and cutters:<br />

I haven't decided whether to make pins or pendants out of them....Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-54000249317114768592015-01-28T22:55:00.001-08:002015-01-28T22:55:44.673-08:00Toad in the Puddle?Toad in the Puddle is a fun quilt pattern. I was playing around with some colors and...well, it's not toad in the puddle. I have the pieces oriented wrong, so it's some other pattern and I don't have any idea what it really is. Doesn't matter, though, because I really like the way the canes turned out:<br />
<br />
This first one uses up some yellow, orange, and red premo that I've had lying around forever:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0951_zps5qbueywc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0951_zps5qbueywc.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0952_zpsfcgzhti9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0952_zpsfcgzhti9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Well,, the beginning component is actually this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0953_zpsh4ilqif4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0953_zpsh4ilqif4.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I used some of my favorite colors to make this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0954_zpsgtqgf3g9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0954_zpsgtqgf3g9.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0955_zpsfu0l5xuc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0955_zpsfu0l5xuc.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The cane ends for the initial component look interesting:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bb9f1f25-1744-48ea-8e5a-1760c6749cff_zpsy1808mba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/bb9f1f25-1744-48ea-8e5a-1760c6749cff_zpsy1808mba.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Kind of like a flower....<br />
<br />
<br />
I had some leftovers, so I made these (I think I like that last one best):<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0958_zpsx5iwsapa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0958_zpsx5iwsapa.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0957_zpsprehbbog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0957_zpsprehbbog.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0956_zpsnkbzzl9m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG0956_zpsnkbzzl9m.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>

I really like this cane. And since I pulled it out for the bracelet (see yesterday's post), I'm inspired to make a little kimono angel with it:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/93246119-0d71-4519-8a71-51e61eab5a29_zpsdr9mfi5h.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/93246119-0d71-4519-8a71-51e61eab5a29_zpsdr9mfi5h.jpg" height="320" width="138" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/dbc128d4-e09e-4caf-b425-38b5aa34823c_zpsfufkxc9m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/dbc128d4-e09e-4caf-b425-38b5aa34823c_zpsfufkxc9m.jpg" height="194" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/16ffa9b0-37e9-405e-bf6a-264cdd12e1d7_zpsnltg8jjo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/16ffa9b0-37e9-405e-bf6a-264cdd12e1d7_zpsnltg8jjo.jpg" height="320" width="144" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A little bit of a dilemma, though...it's a wee bit too small for an ornament and a wee bit too big for a bead. I'll figure something out....Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-4098446477264478882015-01-25T23:04:00.000-08:002015-01-25T23:04:43.931-08:00Still obsessed...I made a few more bracelets this weekend:<br />
<br />
I made this first one just plain and flat; the band has a couple of colors layered into it. It's a little rough, since the cane is an old one. I should have smoothed it out a bit more, but I still like the way it turned out:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/877d273a-538c-4d26-98c8-73d8d2985a1a_zpsp5rt4et3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/877d273a-538c-4d26-98c8-73d8d2985a1a_zpsp5rt4et3.jpg" height="271" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second one is another take on the colorful bracelet I made a bit ago. I made it narrower, but still used the striped lining:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/834099d9-acea-41c1-8ec4-6bf2b6c5663c_zpsp6r8hedi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/834099d9-acea-41c1-8ec4-6bf2b6c5663c_zpsp6r8hedi.jpg" height="320" width="251" /></a></div>
<br />
This third one uses what was left of the cane I used on the Emerald Boa. I love using my canes to make things, but it makes me sad when it's all gone:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/284b4416-9920-4582-bcb8-99361d6afbac_zpsrixsftmq.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/284b4416-9920-4582-bcb8-99361d6afbac_zpsrixsftmq.jpg" height="320" width="290" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally, I made this cane a LONG time ago. It's from a quilt book (or it could be from a quilt magazine...it's so long ago, I don't really remember). It took quite a while to make and I didn't want to reduce it to far; I would lose too much detail. But the size works for one of the bracelet blanks that I had, so I put it together:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/9e253ac1-17ad-4ebb-95c9-fe4b1a1ab5a3_zpskcr8pelv.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/9e253ac1-17ad-4ebb-95c9-fe4b1a1ab5a3_zpskcr8pelv.jpg" height="254" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I'd like to say I'm done, but I still have ideas in my head, clamoring to get out. Maybe I'll take a break from bracelets for a day or two and make something else this week...or not!Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-50644910934655427272015-01-24T23:29:00.002-08:002015-01-25T15:18:19.786-08:00Grow Your Blog Post - Emerald Tree Boa...Welcome, everyone to Catrinket. My name is Cathy and my cousin used to call me Catrinket for a nickname when I was little. When I decided to start a blog to show off my crafting, I thought the name was perfect. I've been working with polymer clay since 1995. I LOVE it! And I also love quilts (but sewing, not so much), so I merged it with my clay work and the results are here.<br />
<br />
Quilt patterns lend themselves to caning, which is a good thing because I can't get enough of it! It can be a bit of a problem, though...what do I do with all those canes (I probably have well over a hundred quilt canes right now? Lucky for me, I've signed up for the year-long PCA Virtual Retreat and I've managed to find new ways to use my quilt canes in the first two lessons! Yay! First with Syndee Holt's bracelets, and now with Katie Oskin's animal figures.<br />
<br />
I used some of the techniques from Katie Oskin's class to make this Emerald Tree Boa. I'd been wondering what to do with this quilt cane--I put a border on it too soon and reduced it too far to be very usable. But it works great for this critter! Thanks so much for coming!!<br />

Of the bracelets I've learned to make, I like the rounded, domed shape best (which is why it's mostly what I'm making)....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG09122_zps3838856f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG09122_zps3838856f.jpg" height="276" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />Cathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00724376291171617084noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-196902057236856003.post-51710020801923523682015-01-19T21:50:00.001-08:002015-01-19T21:50:25.996-08:00Polymer Clay Adventure Virtual Retreat - Lesson One, bracelet five...Finally! I made the last bracelet in Syndee Holt's class:<br /><div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG09142_zps6c9981fe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a364/warmbeachbrat/CIMG09142_zps6c9981fe.jpg" height="247" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's a bit sloppy. The lesson used pearl ex powders and I didn't have the powders in the colors I wanted, so I used Lumiere paints instead. I wasn't as careful as I needed to be, but I still like it. I think I might try it again later this week.</div>
