Thing a Day - Day Twenty-Eight...

*sigh*  It's the last day...and I was on a roll.  Oh well.  I made two critters today.  One from the jungle, a parrot; and one from the sea, a fish.  If I missed your request, I'm sorry.  I think I'll continue this for a little while, so you can still make your wishes known.

I'd just like to say thank you for all your kind comments.  I've had so much fun and I'm glad you liked my roly-poly quilt critters.

Thing a Day - Day Twenty-Seven...

I'd planned on making a couple of critters today, but this little guy took more time than I thought.  I love him!

Here's a close up of his face:

Thing a Day - Day Twenty-Six...

I couldn't decide, so I went with a polar bear and a penguin.  I did a google image search for penguins.  Oh my word!  Baby penguins are just the cutest things!!  I've been thinking about the next three days.  Suggestions have been the jungle, the deep sea, and Australia (and I'm not forgetting the roly poly farmer request).  We'll see...

Thing a Day - Day Twenty Five...

I think I've come to the end of the safari theme with today's piece.  I haven't decided about tomorrow...good thing it isn't today!

My daughter requested a giraffe...

Thing a Day - Day Twenty-Two...

Well, I guess I'm continuing with the "Safari" theme for now.  I may mix it up a bit; or maybe not...I'm a bit scatter-brained and don't stay with the same thing for too long--we'll see.  Anyway:

Thing a Day - Day Twenty-One...

I had one more barnyard critter, but it will take a while and I got home rather late from work.  So I did this pink elephant instead:

Thing a day - Day Twenty...

I got a lot of suggestions for more animals over at the Thing-a-Day website.  I think I'm going to run out of month before I run out of critters!

Thing a day - day nineteen...

I'm going to be running out of barnyard animals pretty soon; I'll have to branch out to other habitats...any requests?

Thing a day - day eighteen...

I wonder how long I can keep this going?

Thing a day - Day Seventeen...

One of the workshops offered at the conference, was making little Inro boxes.  Joan Taylor was the teacher and was just great!  Here’s the Inro I finished today:

Thing a day - Day Sixteen...

My daughter says this is her favorite:

Thing a day - Day Fifteen...

I was away at the polymer clay conference, Horizons 2013, and didn’t have access to my computer (I was unable to upload pictures to my tablet–oh well).  I did make something every day, so I’m posting them all today.  First up:

Thing a Day - Day Fourteen...

I've only got the platypus here tonight...I gave the first three to my mom for Valentine's Day:

Thing a Day - Day Thirteen...

I'm having a lot of fun with these roly-poly little animals.  A mouse this time:

Thing a Day - Day Twelve...

Since I made a kitty yesterday, I decided to make a puppy today:

Thing a Day - Day Eleven...

I covered a small ball with one of my favorite quilt canes for a project last year.  I ultimately decided it wouldn't work and it's been sitting by my TV for months.  I finally figured out what to do with it:

I love cats, so it seemed appropriate.  A couple of other views:

Thing a Day - Day Ten...

Yes, it’s pink…and heart-shaped.  Valentine’s Day is coming up soon.  Actually, I have well over a hundred mini cookie cutters and a great deal of them are hearts of various shapes and sizes.  This is one of my favorite quilt patterns and I make it in quite a few colors.  I made two pendants:

Thing a Day - Day Nine...

Sometimes things are better in thought than in execution.  My drawing looked so much better than my bead (which is saying something, since my drawing skills are pretty pathetic).  Oh well.

Here's the reverse side:

Thing a Day - Day Seven...

This is a simple necklace that I adapted from a class I'll be teaching next month:

Thing a Day - Day Six...

Sometimes, when I have a hard time of thinking of anything creative, I’ll grab some scrap clay and mush it all together.  Most times it turns out green (sometimes blue or purple, but mostly it’s green).  Then I fiddle with it a bit.  I usually wind up making an alien of some sort.  Here’s the latest one:

Thing a Day - Day Five...

A couple of beads…they’re not quite two inches long…. I promise–it won’t be pink and purple all month!

Thing a Day - Day Four...

Still with the ikat stuff.  This time a fibula.  Oh all right...a pin (or brooch).  These were known as fibula in ancient times and I rather like the word.

Thing a Day - Day Three...

I also made a smashed ikat petal cane.  And when I make petal canes, I make polymer flower rings:

During the baking process, the band darkened to the kind of sepia tone you see here.  It doesn't look bad, but I think I liked the bright white better.  Maybe I'll try another one and see....

Thing a Day - Day Two...

Since I had so much of this particular ikat cane, I decided to use it to make a Christmas ornament.  It's never too early for those...

Thing a Day - Day One

Oh dear, I totally forgot to cross-post my thing a day's over here.  Well, never too late to catch up!  I made quite a few smashed ikat canes for the January guild meeting.  I used one of them (and a scrap cane) to make a couple of beads for a necklace:
